7 Dining Chairs, Parota and Leather, from Colima

$5,600.00Precio

Priced in Mexican Pesos.

7 Dining Chairs, Parota and Leather, from Colima.  38" high at the back, 18" wide and 18" deep.

Hand made of high quality materials, excellent craftsmanship, the leather is drying and some trims are loose.  The wood on one or two chairs, while totally sturdy still, has discolorations from sitting in the sun (through a window normally).  Carefull cleaning with a nuetral soap probably will return the wood to the darker color.  These are such good chairs, worth the time and effort to restore them!

These are from the small town of Comala, Colima ( a true Pueblo Magico).

The cooperative there was founded by 2 of the Rangel Hidalgo brothers in the 60's.

The height of it's productivity was in the 1960s and 70's.  These are from an old La Floresta home where many decorators used Colima furnishings in the 1970's when La Floresta was being built.

You never see a piece of Rangel Hidalgo furniture that is wobbly or coming apart.

Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo ( 1923 - 2000) was a Mexican artist and painter , designer of furniture and blacksmithing (sometimes called Rangelian style). He was born on February 2 , 1923 in the city of Colima , Colima . His peculiar style conformed in large part to his multifaceted work as a painter, collector, designer, graphic illustrator, and set designer. He studied high school at the Guadalajara Institute of Sciences. In 1947 he traveled to Europe to spend two years touring art centers and museums in Spain and France through a scholarship, it is there where he works for a time as a set designer for ballets and operas. Back in Mexico he began working as a book illustrator, working with foreign and Mexican writers. He was the creator of a collection of Christmas cards that, when traveling around the world, received awards from Unicef and made him worthy of important recognitions, with the collection of Pre-Hispanic Angels and Angels of this world . In 1993 he obtained the prize for Arts and Humanities. He developed his designer facet when he founded the Comala School of Crafts. As a set designer, his work stands out with the Colima State Folkloric Ballet together with Rafael Zamarripa , created during the Rectorate of Lic. Jorge Humberto Silva Ochoa.
