(He was an artist who worked for Haviland & Co. in the 1870s, whose work is sometimes marked with the initials "EG")
A VERY RARE piece of decorated earthenware from France.
The American Centennial Exposition of 1876 exhibited decorated earthenware pieces from the Haviland artists in France. So inspired were some American potters like Mary Longworth Nichols that a new movement was begun. The American Art Pottery Movement. A movement primarily composed of women.
8'' tall, 16'' long and 8" wide. Signed with his incised initials and a mold number 124, on the base.
Excellent condition.
