An exceptional runner made by the Kurdish weavers.
This very large piece has a dating panel at one end . It says 1320 which would be 1941 in the Gregorian calendar.
You'll see a change in weave technique and colorations that are unusual meaning to me that the weaver was changed at the end of the rug..
There is a small area of knot loss at one end, we will have it sewn up to prevent further losses.
The Kurds are a nomadic tribe roaming throughout Iran, eastern Anatolia, in a small part of Iraq and the southern Caucasus.
Kurdish weavers' work is diverse due to the fragmented nature of Kurdish society, which includes many autonomous clans and tribes.
However, Kurdish weavers share commonalities in their weaving techniques, social dimensions, and economic functions.
Sadam Hussein tried to eliminate them from Iraq by using chemical weapons on them. News reports say that the US provided those chemical weapons to Sadam so he could use them on Iran.. but he also used them on the nomadic Kurds!
