Label on the back of one says: Fabrica-de-Espejos-Fortino-Jaime-Morelos-487, Guadalajara.
These were hand carved from cedro (Mahogany) and then covered in the Estofado process.Beautifully executed, these mirrors show the quality of Mexican wood carvers and antique technique of covering the wood with gesso and then covering it with many coats of paint in order to get a smooth finish on which they could gilt the wood (estofado). One of the mirrors is original, probably 80 to 90 years old and it has "age spots". The is the mirror that still has the label on the back. The other mirror has replacement glass and shows no 'age' at all. It would be easy and very inexpensive to change the old mirror for a fresh new one, saving the label in the process..From my personal collection of Mexican furniture and accessories..
